I recently picked up a book called GOD is HERE: Finding God in the Pain of a Broken World by John W. Nichols. I loved it. If you enjoy a book will truth spread throughout you will definitely enjoy this one. John’s positive message of hope and the loving kindness of God is pervasive and his words flood your soul.
As always with my reviews, let’s do a rundown of the good, the bad, and the great.
The Good
The book is highly personal and reflective. John shares his not so bright past in such a vulnerable way that you can’t help but trust him with your time. I find that many popular self help books and Christian books as well focus highly on tips and tricks without the author revealing their own story. For me, I want to trust the author first before I believe a word of what they are saying, and John does this extremely well.
The Bad
The only thing bad about this book was the difficultly in following along at times. I think I am used to highly structured writing and I found myself getting lost and unsure where the author was going. One of my favorite authors, Mark Batterson, does this exact same thing so John is in good company here. Still though, it can be hard to get a head of steam going when I am not sure what points the author is trying to make at any given time.
The Great
The book focuses on God at all times, lifting the praise and glory to the most high. John reaches out to the reader and says come, listen, and experience for yourself the love of a holy God. The book takes you through a journey and by the end you will have a better understanding of who God is.
For me personally, John’s words affirmed many of the truths that I already believe. It seems as if he and are cut from the same cloth, and while I almost always find a few nuggets I disagree with when reading new books, I found none here. That’s not to say he and I agree on everything, but when it comes to fundamental truths, John has a solid foundation on which to stand.
I loved the book, and I think it’s a message that needs to be spread far and wide.
You can pick it up on Amazon here.
Enjoy!
